- Virginia Credit Union Launches New First-Time Home Grant
March 1, 2024Virginia Credit Union is now doing even more to help first-time home buyers offset the cost of purchasing a home with the new VACU First-Time Home Grant. With this enhanced commitment to helping members purchase their first home, the credit union has pledged $50,000 to provide up to $575 per loan in down payment assistance to qualified borrowers. The VACU First-Time Home Grant can be combined with other grants and discounts for further savings.
- Chartway Holds 65th Annual Meeting and Announces 2024–2025 Board of Directors
February 29, 2024On February 27, 2024, Chartway held its 65th Annual Meeting and elected by acclamation the following individuals to the board of directors: Ron da Silva, Curtis Price and Lara Shields. Following the Annual Meeting, the board held its annual organizational meeting. During this time, the following slate of officers was established: Nancy McMahon – Chair; Melinda Barbish – 1st Vice Chair; Jared Perry – 2nd Vice Chair; Wayne Foshay, Sr. – Secretary; and Robert Holmes – Treasurer.

February 27, 2024Twenty-nine of the credit union industry’s most innovative leaders come together to form the newest cohort of the Filene i3 Program. This latest cohort includes four credit union professionals from Virginia-based credit unions. In its 20th year, the prestigious program experiences heightened demand and intensified competition, as an increasing multitude of exceptional credit union professionals submit their applications every year. Filene i3 is a two-year innovation leadership program equipping top credit union professionals with the mindset, tools, and network to lead and shape the credit union of the 21st Century.
- Connects FCU Announces James McBride as New CEO
February 26, 2024The Board of Directors of Connects Federal Credit Union is pleased to announce the selection of James McBride as the credit union’s new President/Chief Executive Officer. Mr. McBride will succeed Ms. Evelyn Dowdy, who is retiring after serving in the role for nearly 26 years.
- Waverly, Virginia Announces Business Start-Up, and Expansion Competition
February 22, 2024Waverly, Virginia is holding a business plan competition with grant prizes of up to $15,000 for new or expanding businesses located in the Town. Accepted entrepreneurs must participate in a 9-week business planning course offered through Peoples Advantage Federal Credit Union, which will culminate in a “Shark Tank” style juried pitch night to be held May 23, 2024.
- ABNB Community Foundation Awards $10,000 Grant to YWCA South Hampton Roads
February 22, 2024Today, the ABNB Community Foundation announced it has awarded a Grant in the amount of $10,000 to the YWCA of South Hampton Roads.
