League Board Announces Karima Freeman Will Serve as Interim President/CEO Effective March 1
The Virginia Credit Union League Board is pleased to announce that Karima Freeman, current Chief Operating Officer for the organization, will serve as Interim President/CEO following the departure of Carrie Hunt later this month.
“Karima is a proven leader with decades-long relationships within the Virginia credit union system and a deep knowledge of the League’s operations,” said League Board Chairman Joe Thomas, CEO of NextMark Credit Union. “The League Board looks forward to working with her, in partnership with the management team and staff, as we begin a new chapter in the League’s history and as we mark our 90th year of service to Virginia’s credit unions.”
League Board Seeks Nominations for Kirsch, Farley Awards
We are seeking your recommendations for prospective candidates for our annual awards. The Virginia Credit Union League Board will name the winners of this year’s James P. Kirsch Lifetime Achievement Award and Eugene H. Farley Jr. Award of Excellence at the League Annual Meeting in Washington D.C. on May 2, 2024. The James P. Kirsch Lifetime Achievement Award is given annually to recognize an individual who has made significant contributions to the credit union industry during the course of his or her career. The Farley Award is given annually to recognize an individual who has made a significant contribution over a period of the past two or three years. Nominations are due March 15.
Governance Committee Seeks Candidates for 5 League Board Seats
The Governance Committee of the Virginia Credit Union League seeks your recommendations for candidates to be nominated for election to the Board of Directors. In 2024, five board seats are open for election.
League Joins Effort to Protect Fund Supporting Green Lending Initiatives
The Virginia League has signed on with other system partners to a letter to federal lawmakers in support of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund (GGRF). Your League and other partners believe that GGRF funds will be targeted by lawmakers in the coming weeks, with some legislators working to significantly reduce monies previously appropriated for the fund.
League Plans March 4 Legislative Reception on Capitol Hill
Your League will host a Legislative Reception on March 4 in Washington, D.C. We have invited Virginia’s entire Congressional delegation as part of our Governmental Affairs Conference Hike the Hill efforts.
REGular Blog: What We Can Learn from the Fed's Consumer Compliance Outlook
The Federal Reserve recently published its quarterly issue of the Consumer Compliance Outlook. This publication generally focuses on what the Federal Reserve is identifying in the review of banks under their purview. This offers us an opportunity to see some trends (regulatory agencies tend to focus on similar things) and gain expertise on how we can jumpstart and improve our processes and avoid similar violations.
