Celebrating Joe Thomas’s Reappointment to the World Council of Credit Unions Board
We are proud to celebrate Joe Thomas’s reappointment to the World Council of Credit Unions Board through July 2026. Joe Thomas, the seasoned President and CEO of NextMark Credit Union in Fairfax, Virginia, continues to make a significant impact both locally and globally.
Since 1999, Joe has led NextMark Credit Union, driving strategic growth through innovative financial services and a notable expansion of offerings. His service on the Board of Directors for various organizations, including the Credit Union National Association (CUNA) and the Virginia Credit Union League (VACUL), underscores his dedication to the credit union movement.
Joe’s profound commitment to international development began with his role as a Peace Corps training director in Malawi in 1985. His subsequent work with the World Council’s international development team has included projects in countries such as Malawi, Lesotho, Kenya, and Estonia, focusing on enhancing management support services and financial education for credit cooperatives.
His wealth of experience and dedication to the credit union philosophy enriches his contributions to the World Council, making him an invaluable leader within the global credit union community. We are excited to see how his leadership will continue to inspire and propel the credit union movement forward.
