Honoring Veterans Day: How Virginia Credit Unions are Supporting Those Who Serve

11/8/2024

As an organization founded on the philosophy of “people helping people,” the Virginia Credit Union League is proud to see our member credit unions recognizing the contributions of veterans and military families. Many credit unions were founded with a focus on serving the needs of military personnel, and this year, several are making special efforts to celebrate Veterans Day.

While most credit unions will close in observance of this federal holiday, we are pleased to share a few ways our members are honoring the spirit of service through initiatives supporting veterans and their families:

  • Justice Federal Credit Union: Justice Federal recently held a special ceremony for Veterans Day, honoring veterans within their membership, among their staff, and across their members’ families. This tribute reflects Justice Federal’s dedication to recognizing the sacrifices made by service members and the valuable roles they play within the community.

  • PenFed Credit Union: Through the PenFed Foundation, PenFed is launching “The Least We Can Do,” a song honoring veterans. Set for release on Veterans Day, the song brings attention to the needs of veterans and promotes support for veteran-focused programs.

  • Virginia Credit Union: To honor Veterans Day, Virginia Credit Union is extending a special offer for veterans and military service members by waiving home appraisal fees on new home purchases through November 30.

  • Navy Federal Credit Union: This month, Navy Federal Credit Union is engaging its employees in volunteer service projects with The Mission Continues, an organization that connects veterans with community service initiatives. Furthermore, they released this video, where employees surprised veterans with patriotic red, white and blue roses to offer a small token of appreciation for their service.

From financial initiatives to community service, the League is proud of its member credit unions’ efforts to honor veterans and military families. This Veterans Day, we offer our gratitude to all those who have served our country, and we celebrate the incredible community-centered spirit that defines our League.
