Congresswoman-Elect McClellan to Be Sworn in Today; League Attending Ceremony

Authored By: Lewis Wood on 3/6/2023

Congresswoman-elect Jennifer McClellan takes the oath of office on Tuesday evening, assuming the 4th Congressional District seat held by her friend and mentor, the late Donald McEachin. League Chief Advocacy Officer JT Blau will be attending the ceremony.

"We look forward to working with the Congresswoman on credit union issues as she represents the interests of Virginia in Congress," said League President/CEO Carrie Hunt. "As a state lawmaker, she was always willing to engage with us on issues of concern to credit unions and we thank her for her leadership and service. We remain actively engaged with each member of our Congressional delegation on a host of federal issues that directly affect us and our members, including data privacy and security measures, interchange and overdraft services.”

Representatives from eight credit unions joined the League last month on a call with McClellan, who noted that she’s a proud member of the Virginia State University Federal Credit Union, where she received her first car loan. She worked closely with the League during her service in the House, where she served what was then called the Commerce and Labor Committee, the key committee for credit union and financial services legislation.
