League Continues Outreach to Lawmakers on Looming Federal Government Shutdown
There’s little movement in Washington on the looming federal government shutdown. Your League identified a potential federal government shutdown as a key issue for CUs and members as we met with lawmakers during a series of Legislative Receptions across the state this summer and during our Hike The Hill events last week.
It’s obviously a critical issue for the state given the concentration of federal government employees, military and government contractors. We’ve continued outreach to lawmakers this week, outlining the hardships members will face should a federal government shutdown occur. And while credit unions always step up for members, the hardships members face will translate into challenges at our credit unions.
"While credit unions will step up to aid members in the event of a government shutdown, we continue to actively engage with lawmakers in hopes such a scenario can be avoided," said League Chief Advocacy Officer JT Blau. "We've made clear in all our communication to lawmakers and during our meetings with our delegation that a shutdown would also pose a significant challenge for our credit unions."
