Meeting with Rep. Jennifer Wexton
Credit union leaders from Northwest Federal Credit Union and Apple Federal Credit Union joined the League today in a meeting with Congresswoman Jennifer Wexton (D-10) in her office in Washington, D.C. to highlight the impact of Virginia’s credit unions and ask for her support of the SAFE Banking Act.
During the meeting we discussed the most recent developments surrounding the debt ceiling, bank failures, and went in-depth on share insurance for credit union members. We also detailed our top advocacy priorities, including our opposition to changes to credit card interchange, pushing back against the CFPB’s attack on “junk fees” and non-interest income, and reducing uncertainty around marijuana banking. Our credit union advocates emphasized the Credit Union Difference and the impact their credit unions are having on the financial health of their members and communities.
We thank those who joined us on Capitol Hill for the meeting. The League is working with Congressman Scott (D-03) to schedule a meeting with him in late May or early June. Once we meet with Congressman Scott, we will have met with the entire Virginia congressional delegation once this year and plan to meet with them again in the summer and fall.
